Following procedures established by the Section Heads, laboratory management and the pathologist directors, a Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of laboratory tests in many areas of the laboratory, including High Complexity Tests as defined by CLIA. A CLS is responsible for accuracy and reporting of results of application of principles, theories and techniques, professional judgment, computer proficiency, microscopic proficiency, and good communications skills.Qualifications Education: • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university with a major in the biological or chemical sciences as required Licenses/Certificates: • Valid Clinical Laboratory License preferred

This hand-on position requires design and performs test experiments on complex/sophisticated equipments as well as prepares internal and external reports with technical recommendations related to the projects. The individual must be highly motivated able to plan, control, coordinate, direct, track, and execute all R&D projects.RequirementsThis position requires a candidate with a Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering or Pharmaceutical chemistry with 2+ year experience. Working knowledge in hematology, surface chemistry, ligand immobilization and drug delivery to the biotechnology research projects. Postdoctoral research is desirable. The individual will work on projects for hemodialysis and other novel biotechnologies related to the biomedical industry. Designs and reviews nonclinical protocols based on scientific rationale and/or regulatory guidelines. Supervises conduct of in house necropsy or serves as pathology monitor for CRO studies. Conducts anatomic and clinical pathological and organ weight evaluation and ensures integration of this data with pharmacologic, in-life, toxicokinetic and macroscopic data in discussion/conclusions. Informs management of ongoing and planned project/program activities and potential issues or conflicts. The successful candidate will interface with basic scientists and clinicians at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases, organ transplant program, and neurosciences. The College of Pharmacy has a very active Center for Drug Delivery and Nanomedicine involving strong collaborations with many outstanding researchers at other national and international universities. The ideal candidate should have current extramural funding, a demonstrated ability and commitment to teaching excellence at the professional and graduate levels, and a history of innovative, interdisciplinary, collaborative research interactions. However, young investigators with a strong potential to obtain research funding will also be considered. Performs and interprets moderate and high complexity tests, reports results and prepares blood products following standard operating procedures and current Good Manufacturing Practices. Monitors pending lists. Meets or exceeds turn-around time goals for test production and result reporting.
