Summary The Director of Dental is responsible for supervising, operating and directing the Dental Program. Responsible for administering, maintaining and expanding a program of primary and preventive dental care in a community health center setting. The Dental Director supervises the dental staff of the community health center and represents the dental staff to the CEO. Treat patients and staff respectfully, courteously and appropriately- Coordinates patient care with colleagues, case management staff and other agencies as necessary- Educates patients on preventive health care and chronic disease management - Practices appropriate follow-up and outreach to special needs patientsDesigns, develops, and implements appropriate Dental Department policies, protocols and procedures which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards. - Completes dental charting and coding in a timely manner- Participates in governmental or grant reviews when necessary- Contributes to dental/staff departmental meetings- Attends and contributes to committee meetings/work- Recruits, interviews, makes recommendations and orients new dental staff- Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel in the performance of their required duties. Provides appropriate feedback and conducts timely, fair and accurate performance reviews- Conducts periodic audits and peer reviews in accordance with Grant, Insurance and Quality Assurance committee requirements- Responsible for preparing the dental budget- Recommends expenditures, purchases, staffing patterns and salaries to fiscal officer- Prepares an annual report reflecting the goals, objectives, activities, accomplishments and problems of the dental department- Develops programs which will be most effective in promoting and improving the dental health of the community- Communicates with the community to promote the dental programQualificationsEducation: Graduate of a Dental School recognized by the ADA Counsel on Dental Education. Dental Residency Program required. Current Connecticut Dental License and current narcotics license required. CPR Certification required.Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years clinical experience and five (5) years of administrative responsibility, preferably within a community health center, Health Maintenance Organization of large ambulatory care center.Knowledge/Abilities: Knowledge of dental health care management and operations. Ability to multitask and maintain good communication with wide variety of staff. Ability to write reports and documents and deliver oral presentations.
