Since its founding in 1881, Samaritan Medical Center
(formerly House of the Good Samaritan) has dedicated
itself to meeting the diverse healthcare needs of
all Northern New York residents. The facility has
grown from a five-bed hospital serving the City of
Watertown to the leading provider of healthcare services
in Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence and northern Oswego
counties.
Today, Samaritan Medical Center
is a 287-bed acute care facility and serves as a
regional referral center for Northern New York. The
hospital provides a full array of medical, surgical
and emergency care, including medical/surgical beds,
critical care services, pediatrics, maternity, and
a state-of-the-art emergency department. The hospital
also provides inpatient mental health services.
Samaritan Medical Center offers a variety of specialized
services typically associated only with larger urban
healthcare centers. Specialty services available
locally include comprehensive cancer treatment, physical
medicine and rehabilitation, high risk maternity
and level II neonatal intensive care, cardiac rehabilitation,
trauma care, cardiac and pulmonary care, diagnostic
cardiac catheterization and ambulatory surgery.
In addition, Samaritan has developed a number of
Centers of Excellence. For example, the Walker Cancer
Treatment Center was established to provide the most
modern and up-to-date technology, treatment and therapies
for cancer patients and their families right here
in Northern New York. Cancer treatment is provided
by private medical oncologists, radiation therapists,
ontological technicians and other healthcare professionals
in a convenient, comfortable setting. The quality
staff, comprehensive services and caring professionals
all combine to make this Center an invaluable resource
to the North Country community.
Samaritan
is one of few rural facilities in New York State
with a revolutionary spinal surgery program, made
possible through the use of the holmium laser. The
neurosurgical program is another example of Samaritan's
interest in making technologically advanced services
available locally to residents of Northern New York.
