Eastern Maine Medical
Center's goal is to be the employer of choice in
Maine—a destination hospital, not just for
patients but also for skilled healthcare professionals
who seek to perform worthwhile work on a well-integrated
team, and to make a difference in the life of their
community. Certainly, we are well on our way to reaching
that goal having processed more than 22,000 employment
applications in 2006. Our employment system keeps
profiles of prospective job candidates for positions
that may become available in the future—in
essence a waiting list of people who would like to
come to work at EMMC.
EMMC employs more than
3500 people, performing an astounding variety of
jobs. Walking the halls of our main campus, our sites
at the Eastern Maine Healthcare Mall at Union Street
and the Cianchette Building in Brewer, Lincoln or
Ellsworth Dialysis centers, or our many primary care
physician offices you will encounter highly skilled,
productive, and conscientious employees doing the
important work that keeps EMMC caring for the communities
it serves every day. Visitors say the medical center
approximates a small city in the variety of skills
it takes to keep it operating well. Each employee
has a part to play in the smooth delivery of the
EMMC patient experience. Supervisors are trained
to help those individuals understand their role in
the big picture, and to let them know they are important.
Compared to national averages for employee turnover,
which are reported to be between 25 and 30 percent,
our employee turnover rate is low at approximately
10 percent.
