It is our mission to work with individuals, families and partners to promote and improve the health of our communities. We use resources wisely to provide access to a broad range of quality health services. South West Health operates two Community Hospitals, one Regional Hospital as well as Addiction Services, Mental Health and Public Health. South West Health is one of nine district health authorities serving the province of Nova Scotia. District health authorities were created to bring health care decision-making closer to the community level and improve accountability for health care decisions. Why South West Nova? The icy blue waters of the Atlantic wash miles of rugged coastline. White sand beaches offer the perfect spots to relax, swim and stroll. Plenty of fresh fish and lobster are brought ashore by our local fishermen. Rural life offers close-knit communities where neighbours are willing to extend a welcoming hand. One of the best kept secrets in the world, visitors are learning that a visit to South West Nova means a slower pace, beautiful untouched coastline, lakes, forests, clean air and friendly faces. We enjoy mild winter weather; some of our harbours remain ice-free over the winter months. Summers are hot and dry - great for golfing one of our five 18-hole courses or try camping, ocean kayaking, sailing or sport fishing. We like to have a good time; festivals, community celebrations and county exhibitions take place every week throughout the summer. For the perpetual student, take advantage of a French Immersion program at Université Ste. Anne.
