The Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region is a regional health authority that covers the northern quarter of the province of Saskatchewan. Mamawetan Churchill River Health District was formed in 1998. Previous to this date, health services were provided by the La Ronge Health Centre and Northern Health Services Branch of Saskatchewan Health. In August 2002 the District became a Regional Health Authority. The population of the Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region is approximately 20,382 people. The people in the Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region are mostly Cree, Dene, and English. The Health Region is 133, 900 km square, which makes it one of the largest Health Regions in the province. The major Centre for the Health Region is a Ronge, the other towns with health facilities are Pinehouse, Sandy Bay, Creighton, and Weyakwin. The
services that are offered with the Health Region
are as follows: Primary Care Diabetes Education Acute Care Home Care Lab/X-ray/Ultrasound Medical Transportation Health Records/Clerical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation Services Addiction Prevention Brain Injury Prevention Children's Dental Plan Community Health Education Telehealth Environmental Health and Public Health Inspection Immunization Medical Health Officer; Chronic Disease and Injury Surveillance; Communicable Disease Problem Gambling Coordinator/educator Public Health Nursing Services Mental Health Services Human Resources Information Systems Payroll The Health Centre in La Ronge has 14 Acute Care beds, 5 pediatric beds, 16 Long-Term beds, 8 Detox/addiction Recovery beds, and 4 Outpatient beds. This was built in 1996 moving the hospital from La Ronge Ave to Backlund St. The new building has more amenities and concentrates most of the La Ronge Health Region employees in one building. Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region provides the following health services to the two communities: public health nursing and home care services. Dental health services are provided to children in Creighton, Denare Beach and Sandy Bay. Community Mental Health Services are also provided in those communities. Incentives Saskatchewan Health is currently offering two grants for health workforce employees: a Relocation grant for $5,000 and a Northern/Rural/Hard-to-Recruit grant for up to $15,000. Funding is provided to health workforce employees who agree to provide a specified return-in-service commitment to work in the province.
