Established in 1869, CSR is San Antonio’s only non-profit, Catholic healthcare system. CHRISTUS Health is sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of Houston and the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of San Antonio. These congregations were founded in 1866 and 1869 respectively, in response to Bishop Claude Marie Dubuis’ call: “Our Lord Jesus Christ, suffering in the persons of a multitude of sick and infirm of every kind, seeks relief at your hands.”

Five Locations

Opened in 1869 as San Antonio’s first private hospital, CSR City Centre provides comprehensive care for adults and features a 400-plus bed, acute care facility. It also features a Level III trauma center and an 8,000-square-foot, 24-hour emergency room. Special features include award-winning cardiac suites, comprehensive cancer program, orthopedic program, hemodialysis access center, women’s surgical unit and nationally recognized obstetric and newborn services.

CSR Medical Center is a 178-bed acute care facility providing comprehensive care for adults. It features award-winning rehabilitation services, a comprehensive orthopedic program, the CHRISTUS Transplant Institute, diabetes care, a nephrology program and endocrinology services. The facility also offers highly specialized services such as orthopedic and cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac catheterization and the latest in hyperbaric wound care services, and transplant surgery.

CSR Children’s Hospital is a 150-bed facility serving more than 150,000 children annually from a 90-county area. CSR Children’s Hospital offers comprehensive care of all children including emergency services, neonatal intensive care, congenital heart program, titanium rib implants, specialized asthma program, respite care, outpatient surgery, pediatric orthopedics, oncology, hospice suites, nationally recognized palliative care program and wellness and education programs.

CSR New Braunfels is located approximately 30 miles northeast of San Antonio. This 132-bed acute care facility was acquired February 1, 2008, making it our latest addition. The story of CSR New Braunfels is really one of community, vision, leadership, and kindness. Without all of these qualities, the healthcare institution we know today might never have become a reality.

CSR is currently constructing a 150-bed hospital in Westover Hills, one of the fastest-growing areas in northwest San Antonio. Scheduled to open in the spring of 2009, this facility will represent the first and only full-service medical complex in this part of the city. CSR Westover Hills will provide women’s, newborn, imaging, surgical and critical care services along with an emergency department and neonatal intensive care unit.
