Legal Land Description
Boreal Forest Natural Region

One of Alberta's largest lakes, Cold Lake is an important breeding area for numerous waterfowl, including colonial nesting birds; the lake also provides excellent sport fishing.
Park designation date: August 18, 1976.

Fee: Fee = power sites $24.00/night; non-power $18.00/night; barrier-free washrooms; coin-operated showers; marina in town of Cold Lake; pay phone at park entrance; from May 1 until Victoria Day weekend & 3rd week in Sept. until Oct. 31, 30 power sites available in "F" loop for shoulder-season camping.

  • Cold Lake is home to more than 200 bird species; breeding wood warblers, yellow rail & sedge wren, as well as one of Alberta's largest nesting western grebe colonies are found here; other species in the area include chestnut-sided, Canada & mourning warblers, flycatchers, thrushes, vireos, great black-backed gull, common eider, teals & mallards.

Campground
Trail begins at south end of campground loop A near Hall's Lagoon and travels through campground to boat launch parking area; trail is quite hilly with some sharp corners; stands of mature spruce and poplar; viewing platforms at Hall's Lagoon are excellent for wildlife viewing; gravel surface.

Lakeshore
Trail winds along lakeshore to boat launch area, through large stands of spruce with some poplar & birch; lots of rest stops with either benches or picnic tables; scenic views of lake; trail is very hilly with numerous sharp corners; steep bank along trail's north side; gravel surface.
