BannersIdentity
July 1 – September 30, 2008
This project presents fifty photographic portraits of students from Northwest Pasadena, which will be displayed as banners on light poles throughout the city. The portraits deal with issues of identity and community and will include photographs by students from Washington Middle School, Muir High School, and the Madison Neighborhood Community Casita. These students have developed their skills in Photoshop over a 10-week class taught by Armory teachers Joel Glassman and Rosa Anaya. These classes constituted the first in-school daily instruction by the Armory Center for the Arts, and culminated in the creation of self-portraits. Accompanying the students black and white portraits will be color portraits taken by professional photographer Harris Hartsfield. This program is sponsored in part by the Annenberg Foundation, W.M. Keck Foundation, Surdna Foundation, James Irvine Foundation, Rose Hills Foundation, The Eisner Foundation, and the Rowe & Gayle Giesen Trust.
