Police seek suspect in bank robbery
Police are seeking a suspect in the robbery of Boone County National Bank earlier this afternoon.
Police responded to a bank alarm at 1:33 p.m. at Boone County National Bank on 2711 West Broadway, a Columbia Police Department news release stated.
The suspect handed the teller a note and implied he had a weapon, but didn't display one, the release said. The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money and he left the bank on foot traveling southwest, the release stated.
The suspect is described as a thin white male, 5-feet, six inches tall, to 5-feet, eight inches tall with brown hair. He was wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball cap.

Rock Bridge leading at end of third quarter
Bruins running back Jaimonte Cooper notched his second touchdown on the night with a 60-yard scamper at 9:03 in the third quarter to put Rock Bridge up 14-12 in back-and-forth affair with Lee's Summit North.
Cooper's score was a quick response after Broncos running back Quincy Williams punched in a 4-yard touchdown run just 20 seconds earlier to put Lee's Summit North ahead 12-10.
The Bruins led 7-6 at halftime after Cooper scored his first touchdown with 6:24 left in the second quarter. The Bruins trailed 6-0 after the first period when Lee's Summit North's Jake Sumner returned a interception six-yard for a score. -
Liberty's big third quarter puts Hickman in hole
The Liberty Blue Jays exploded for 27 points in the third quarter to take a 34-10 lead over Hickman into the final period.
The offensive explosion came after Hickman led 10-7 at halftime of its season opener.
Liberty was first to score with a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jimmy Smelcer to running back Katro Keels with 3:37 to go in the first quarter.
Kewpies quarterback Matt Herman responded with 2:40 remaining in the opening period with a 68-yard rushing touchdown. Wesley Leftwich put Hickman ahead with a 20-yard field goal with 10:10 remaining in the second quarter. -
Remains found, former Harrisburg man arrested
The remains of Mitchell Wayne Kemp have been identified after they were found in a make-shift grave Aug. 9 near Three Creeks Conservation Area, a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department said. Kemp had not been in contact with his family since 2004.
Gregory Warren Morton, 40, formerly of Harrisburg, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in St. Louis, after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Bond was set at $1 million.
An autopsy conducted Aug. 12, indicated that Kemp was shot to death. -
Columbia resident dies while serving in Iraq
Spc. Steven J. Fitzmorris, 26, died Aug. 25 while serving in Iraq, according to a news release from Memorial Funeral Home. Fitzmorris is believed to be the fifth soldier from Columbia to die while serving in Iraq. The Missourian will have more information as it becomes available.
