Embattled Illinois governor impeached

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois House voted overwhelmingly today to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich, an unprecedented action that sets up a Senate trial on whether he should be thrown out for abuse of power, including allegations that he tried to sell President-elect Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat.

Impeachment required just 60 votes. The final result was 114-1.

ELKO — Observant casino security personnel led to the arrest Thursday of a suspect in Saturday’s attempted robbery at Nevada State Bank in Smith’s supermarket.

Elko police officers arrested Nathaniel Hamilton, 26, of Austin, Texas, at 11 a.m. in the alley behind Diana’s Fine Jewelry, said Elko police Lt. Will Lehmann.

When the Carlin and Owyhee boys basketball teams met Thursday, it was evident Eastern 1A play had begun. The laid back, experimental attitude common during December non-league games and tournaments was replaced with an intense 60-54 Owyhee road victory.
