Evolve needs your greenest ideas!

We know most of you are still recovering from the earth-shattering music festival experience that was Evolve 2008. But as autumn turns to winter, thoughts at Evolve HQ are turning to Evolve 2009, and how - as always - we can make it better than last year.

Since our first year, Evolve has endeavoured to produce the greenest festival in Canada. Each year, we attempt to reduce further the environmental impact of having thousands of people spend the weekend with us. We’ve developed substantial recycling and waste reduction programs, experimented with alternative renewable energy, and invited some of Canada’s greenest minds to speak and hold workshops at Evolve to spread knowledge and inspire eco-friendly practices all year long.

And this year, we’re turning to the Evolve Community to help us out. Our community abounds with the some of the most informed, educated and connected green minds in Canada. Many of you work in green companies and organizations, promoting greener choices and alternatives for the Canadian consumer. We’re asking for your help. And we’re putting a couple of 2009 festival passes on the table for the best submission.

We want your ideas to make Evolve greener. Real ideas that can be employed in summer 2009 to reduce the festival’s impact on the environment. In particular, we’re looking for ways to:

  • reduce our carbon footprint
  • reduce the amount of landfill waste generated by the festival
  • keep our beautiful festival site clean for years to come
  • save trees, keep the air and water free of pollutants
  • reduce car travel to and from the festival
  • reduce the amount of non-disposable plastic used at our festival
  • educate our community in leading greener lives.

  • Although we encourage everybody to send us their best, most thoughtful, suggestions – we would prefer those submissions that are grounded in pragmatism. Ideally, your suggestion should be doable next year. It should include your thoughts on costs, benefits, potential suppliers/partners, and how much work will be required to implement your plan. If your environmental angle is not very well known, please include links to information that will get us up to speed quickly.

Please send your submissions to greener@evolvefestival.com, before December 31 2008. Don’t forget to include your name and phone number so we can get in touch. The best suggestions will be posted on the evolvefestival.com website, and the winner for the best green idea will be selected by Evolve HQ before 2009 tickets go on sale, and hopefully implemented next year.

Please help make Evolve greener people. And start getting excited for next year’s festival. It’s going to be greater and greener!

    Thanks, Jonas

    Wow, that was fun!

Another year, and another awesome and unforgettable Evolve Festival. Thank you all for making Evolve the best summer event in Atlantic Canada – yet again. All year long at Evolve HQ, we plan and prepare to make a great festival weekend – but it’s when you - the artists, the volunteers, the staff and the rest of the Evolve community - show up that the festival really comes together. Rain or shine - it’s YOUR enthusiasm, energy, and your unrelenting positivity that makes Evolve the superb event that it is.

Huge thanks go out to all of you who support Evolve year-round. It’s your support that keeps this operation going year after year (plus the fact that we really enjoy partying with you!). Please keep smiling, and keep the Evolve vibe going strong throughout the year.

Planning for Evolve 2009 starts today! See you next summer!

    Evolve HQ.

    It’s time to Evolve, people!

It’s finally here! It’s Evolve weekend, baby! And we’re busy busy busy at Evolve HQ as we prepare the site and stages for your arrival this weekend. While we all count down the seconds until the festival, here’s a few last-minute updates and reminders.

The Evolve 2008 Performance Schedule is up! Click here to see the weekend schedule of performers and workshops and start planning your festival down to the last minute! Or just show up and let destiny guide you. Your call. But the sched is up, there’s over 45 artists and performers, and this year’s lineup is insane!

And a few important reminders before you get on the road...

    • Please bring your own reusable mugs and plates! Our vendors will serve up their food and beverages on your reusables. We’re trying to create a zero-waste festival – and it all starts with you bringing your own plastic mug.
    • Please bring only your human friends. No pets will be allowed on the Evolve site.
    • And while we’re at it – Please do not bring any glass bottles, bar-b-q’s, or fireworks. No fires will be permitted on site.
    • Don’t forget your tickets. And your costumes and signs and pink flamingos.
    • Please please please drive safely and responsibly to and from the festival. Get directions here.

The gates open at Friday at 10am, and the music starts just before 4:30pm.

Get ready to Evolve! We can’t wait to see you.

    Disc Golf at Evolve!

This year, Evolve is happy to welcome some new high flying entertainment - disc golf. This summer's festival will feature a mini disc golf course open to all players.

Disc golf, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the game, is played much like traditional golf, but instead of using a ball and a club you throw a special disc (or frisbee). The "Flying Disc Mobile" will arrive on Friday night for the festivities. There will be discs available for sale, trade or loan. Look for demos, games and competitions all weekend long!

Disc golf is brought to you by the maritimes' first disc golf club - The Gogan's Green Disc Golf Club - and their loyal players.

For more info, visit their Facebook page, or www.pdga.com (yes, there are Professional disc golfers). See you on the links!

    New Weekend - July 25, 26, & 27, 2008!

Yes, we changed the date of this year's festival. Please mark your calendars and tell your boss - the ninth annual Evolve Festival will take place on July 25, 26, & 27, 2008 in beautiful Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The new date lets us sidestep a couple other competing events in Atlantic Canada and frees up some performers that we're very excited to bring to Evolve.

Yes, Evolve is happening again. The dates may change but the vibe remains. We can't wait to see you all again.

Check back here soon for updates on the lineup and other Evolve 2008 news.
