Town-hall Meetings Scheduled to Discuss Closing the Achievement Gap
Don’t miss your opportunity to make your voice heard on closing the achievement gap on Saturday, Nov. 22, in Tacoma. Washington state faces a growing crisis in the education of African-American students. Almost 40 percent of African-American students in Washington state are not graduating on time with their peers. A state advisory committee is holding a series of town-hall meetings in coming weeks to explore causes and solutions to the African-American student achievement gap. Read more »
First District Powwow Honors the Gift of Tradition
The theme of Federal Way Public Schools’ first-ever powwow, sponsored by the Native Education Program, is “Honoring the Gift of Tradition”. The powwow will be held at Federal Way High School on Saturday, Nov. 22. The program begins at 1 p.m. with the first Grand Entry, featuring Native Dancers from across the region parading into the gymnasium with the FWHS JROTC providing Color Guard. At 7 p.m., a second Grand Entry will take place with Todd Beamer’s JROTC providing Color Guard. Read more »

Construction Bond Update – Breaking Ground and Breaking the Mold
In May, 2007, voters in the Federal Way Public Schools service area approved a $149 million bond construction package. Sixteen months later, groundwork is underway at Valhalla Elementary, and Panther Lake Elementary groundwork will be started shortly. November 26 Is Early Dismissal Day
Federal Way Public School’s calendar provides for an early dismissal of students on Wednesday, November 26. School lunches will be served at a time to be determined by the school in consultation with the Nutrition Services Department. Schools will release students to go home at the following times. Judge Rules in Favor of Federal Way Schools in Fair Funding Lawsuit
On November 2, 2007, King County Superior Court Judge Michael Heavey declared the state's current school funding system, in particular the LEAP salary allocation table, unconstitutional. The lawsuit was brought against the state last year to challenge the state’s system of funding, which results in substantial inequities in state funding from one school district to the next.
