Haunting Arts & Spooktacular Science Saturday, October 25, 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. Gateway to Science's traditional "Spooktacular Science" is being expanded this year with the addtion of "Haunting Arts" presented by the other anchor organizations in the Frances Leach High Prairie Arts & Science Complex. The event will feature Halloween-themed activities and performances that are sure to appeal to the entire family. Here's just a sample of what you will enjoy at Haunting Arts & Spooktacular Science: 'Spooky' hands-on science activities at various stations in an open-house format; three performances of ‘Welcome to the Haunted House' by Shade Tree Players and Bewitching Art projects by Theo Art School. Below is a complete schedule of the activities. Tickets for Haunting Arts & Spooktacular Science will be sold for 50¢ each in a carnival style. Each activity will require 1, 2, 3 or 4 tickets. For example, you'll need 3 tickets to participate in all of the Spooktacular Science activities, and 2 tickets for admission to the hands-on Science Exhibit Gallery. (As always, Gateway to Science members will be admitted into the gallery for free!) Gateway to Science Rotunda & Galleries 2 12:30-4:30 p.m. Spooktacular Science - Step into the "laboratory" to experience 10 fun, spooky & hands-on science experiments! Gateway to Science Art & Grace Link Community Room 3 12:30-4:30 p.m. Ghoulish treats and drinks -- Concessions for all to enjoy. Central Dakota Children's Choir Kitchen 1 or 2 per item 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 & 4:00 p.m. Scary Sound Effects Suzuki School of Music Allegro Rehearsal Hall 2 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 p.m. Haunting Art that will make you smile! "Creative Halloween Masks" class for children 3-5 and "Lucky Witches" class for children 6-11. Children can make a mask or a witch in concurrent sessions from 1-1:45 p.m, 2-2:45 p.m. and 3-3:45. High Prairie Awarded The Frances Leach High Prairie Arts & Science Complex recently received the Arts & Humanities Award from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Midwest Regional Council at their annual gathering in Cody, Wyoming. This regional award is given to honor commitment to and the promotion of arts and humanities. It follows the "Golden Egg Award" that was awarded to the Bismarck Parks & Recreation District by the North Dakota Recreation and Park Association. As stated in the receipt of that award, "Bismarck Parks & Recreation District demonstrated innovative partnerships and programming within their community."
