Web Cams - Traffic Outside Horseshoe Bay Terminal, Traffic to Nanaimo,
Langdale & Bowen Island
These pages are designed
to help you discover the pleasures and amenities of the picturesque
Village of Horseshoe Bay, a
colourful
port community that is one of Greater Vancouver's favourite
destinations.
At
Horseshoe Bay
the highway ends and ferry travel begins for those heading for
Bowen Island,
the Sunshine Coast and Nanaimo. And
here drivers travelling to the
Resort Municipality of Whistler leave the
Trans-Canada Highway (known locally as the Upper Levels Highway) and
head north on the Sea-to-Sky Highway en route to North America's premier
skiing and sports destination. Whistler, together with the
City of Vancouver itself, is to be the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Home to about 1,000
residents, Horseshoe Bay
is actually part of a much larger municipality: the District of West
Vancouver, one of Canada's wealthiest residential communities (To know
more about West Vancouver visit our partner sites --
Ambleside
Village
and
Dundarave
Village).
Horseshoe Bay's
waterfront fixtures include a ferry terminal with
berths for three large ships of the
BC Ferries fleet, a marina, shops,
restaurants, pubs, and a restful park and playground at the water's
edge.
Recreation in the vicinity is more than abundant: boating,
kayaking,
scuba diving,
whale watching,
golf and skiing.
To reach Horseshoe Bay
from points south visitors must enter the
City
of Vancouver first, make their way across
Lions Gate Bridge to West
Vancouver, then follow the signs for the ferry terminal. Visitors
from the east need only to stay on Highway 1, the Trans-Canada Highway.
Vancouver is a tourist delight with the oceans and the mountains. There
is so much to see and do in this cosmopolitan city.
Popular Vancouver attractions on the North Shore include
Grouse Mountain,
Capilano Suspension Bridge.
Vancouver attracts many American visitors including those from
Washington State and Washington State's biggest city
Seattle.
