At the December 2, 2008 meeting Kathy Scheller, Executive Director of Ronald McDonald house Charities of the Ohio Valley, Inc, spoke to the West Side Nut Club Members of the new Ronald McDonald House coming to Evansville. opens in Philadelphia thanks to Dr. Audrey Evans, Philadelphia Eagles’
player Fred Hill (whose daughter, Fran, had leukemia), Jim Murray, the
Eagles’ general manager and Ed Rensi, the McDonald’s regional manager. The McDonald’s owner/operators in Philadelphia made the House possible, donating proceeds from the sale of shamrock shakes.
During the December 2, 2008 Business Meeting West Side Nut Club Treasurer Alan Schaffstein introduced Tom Fleenor as the 2011 Fall Festival Chairman. 2011 will be the 90th Annual Fall Festival which takes place the first full week in October each year.
At the November 18, 2008 business meeting the member's of the West Side Nut Club approved the purchase of the building that currently houses it's office on the second story. Club Historian Dick Barchet provided history of the building as well as pictures that appeared in a book chronicling the history of the buildings along West Franklin Street. Warren Marr with Evansville First Seventh-day Adventist Church (booth number 87) put together a video depicting how to, and sometimes how not to, setup a booth for the fall festival. Click read more to view the video.
The annual West Side Nut Club Cruise-In takes place in June. This years event takes place on West Franklin Street from 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday June 13th, 2009. St Joe Ave. to Wabash Ave. will be closed off for cruise-in participants. All makes and models are welcome (cars, trucks, & bikes). We especially would like to see more car clubs bring in their groups. There will also be door prizes and a half pot drawing (8:00 PM). Registration is from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The first 200 registrants will receive dash plaques. Trophies will be presented for people's choice for best Ford, best GM, best Chrysler, best special interest, best truck, best bike and the chairman will present a trophy for his favorite.
Cruise In Chairman Brian Schaffstein is alos looking for low riders and hoppers to be displayed as well.
Registration is free. However, donations to the West Side Nut Club Scholarship Fund are welcome.
