The Minister, Ministry of Health & Long Term care ( MoHLTC) has sent a letter to the Health Professions regulatory council (HPRAC) to start the process to regulate medical sonography. HPRAC will be the agency to recommend to the government as to how Sonography will be regulated.

The Profession has joined physicians, nurses and 4 other professions in being profiled to collect national data for Human Health Resource (HHR) planning. The Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI) will be doing an annual analysis on data that will be compiled by the CMRTO. This project is another indicator of the importance of Medical Radiation Technology to the health care system.

The OAMRT will be putting together a Upper GI training program for MRTs who want to learn how to do Barium studies. Radiologists all over the Province are indicating that they have no time now with their shortages to do them and are turning to us.
