Shumpert Signs With Freed-Hardeman University |
|
Paducah Tilghman High School student Natalie Shumpert has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Freed-Hardeman University.
Shumpert, a guard for the Lady Tornado,led the 1st region in scoring, averaging 19 points per game. She was one of the top 3 point shooters in the region finishing with a 38% mark from long range. She was chosen as the MVP for the Blue Tornado and was selected to the All 2nd district team and the All-Purchase team. She helped the Tornado to a 17-12 record that included an undefeated season in the 2nd district and a 2nd District Championship.

Akojie Appointed to Kentucky Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education |

Govenor Steve Beshear has appointed Paducah Public Schools board member Dr. Felix O. Akojie to the Kentucky Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education. Dr. Akojie, a professor at the West Kentucky Community and Technical College, will serve through Dec. 15, 2010. He serves as the First Region chairperson on the KSBA board.

College Expo Draws Record Crowd |

Dinning gymnasium felt very full as 350 students from the region, along with parents and guardians, met with admissions representatives and alumni representing over eighty college, technical schools, and miltary branches at the 2008 PHTS Regional College Expo on September 23.
Carolyn Martin, guidance counselor at PTHS, called it a "record turnout". She attributed the steady traffic to the interest that parents and students have in "an opportunity in the evening to gather information for students."

Ballowe Appointed to KCCRB Board |

Tom Ballowe, Director of Special Programs for Paducah Public Schools, has been appointed by Governor Steve Beshear to the Kentucky Community Crisis Response Board for a two year term.
The KCCRB oversees the coordination and delivery of crisis intervention and disaster behavioral health services for the state in the event of a natural or man made disaster or under national security conditions. Dr. Ballowe will represent mental health professionals on the board.

Clark Elementary, Paducah Middle Receive Art Reproductions |
Clark Elementary and Paducah Middle School recently received artworks from Picturing America, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts that helps teach American history and culture by bringing some of the country’s great art directly to classrooms and libraries. Awardees receive 40 large, high-quality reproductions of great American art and a comprehensive teacher's resource book to facilitate the use of the works of art in core subjects.

Paducah Middle Lady Tornado Softball Finishes Best Season In History With Win |

The Lady Tornado Softball team concluded its most successful season in history last night. They ended the season with 13 wins. Congratulations to the Lady Tornado for an outstanding year! The Tornado say goodbye to the following 8th graders: Chelsie Brown, Kalli Chapman, Alicia Humphrey, and Sammi Ingram.
