Petersburg City Public Schools will provide a quality education to all students that will meet or exceed local, state and national standards. We commit to challenge and provide the necessary support so that each student will achieve at his or her highest potential in a safe, secure and nurturing environment. We will provide experiences for our students to become life-long learners and contributing members in a global society.

  • We are excited to announce the completion of a major capital improvement project. Work is done on an addition to J.E.B. Stuart Elementary School that adds a new, multipurpose center, a computer lab, a music room and other educational spaces. Construction is nearly complete on additions to A.P. Hill Elementary School. These projects will help us to provide a World Class education for your World Class children!
 
SOL Testing in the PCPS:
  • Fall SOL testing for Petersburg High School and Vernon Johns Junior High School begins January 7, 2009. Spring SOL Writing will take place in March 2009; non-writing SOL testing will start in May 2009.
     
    Students testing on line will get their score results back within a few days of testing depending on the test administered. Students testing with paper and pencil will get their scores back in about 4 to 6 weeks.

  • We care about our Fort Lee neighbors, who put their lives on the line to defend our freedom and keep us safe! PCPS staff members, and students at Petersburg High School, click here to learn how you or your club/organization can provide some service to military families this holiday season.

  • We invite the public to take a look at what we have to offer in the Petersburg schools:
  • Prospective teachers: Attend the 2009 Region 1 Teacher Job Fair, Saturday, January 10. More information.
 Employees:
  • The Winter Break for Petersburg City Public Schools will begin Monday, December 22, 2008. (Friday, December 19, 2008 will be a full work day.) Employees and students will report back on Monday, January 5, 2009.

  Parents:

  •  We are compiling a database of parent email addresses for sending out important announcements from time to time. We will continue to use phone calls and letters but email will help us speed the information process. Please send an email to cldavis@petersburg.k12.va.us to be included on this list. Your address will be kept confidential.
  • Check under the Parent Resources tab for a regularly updated list of student contests and scholarships.
  • The Contingency Plan presented to the School Board in November, 2008, is now available under the FYI tab at the top of this page.
  • "Lexile" is a new measurement tool offered by the Virginia Department of Education to help parents select books for their children to read. Learn more.
