North's National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Seven North High seniors have been named Semifinalists in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. Divina Allan; Nathan Estes; Amanda Glass; Jane Ly; Guillermo Martinez-Garcia; Lauren Partch and Matthew West qualified as semifinalists by scoring in the in the top half of the top one percent of students in Arizona in the 2007 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT).

Semifinalists represent less than one percent of the 1.5 million juniors from over 21,000 high schools who take the PSAT. It marks the third time North has had seven semifinalists in one year since 1990. Should these seven students become finalists, it would give North 83 National Merit Scholarship Finalists since 1990. National Merit Finalists are highly coveted as prospective students to every college and university in the country, and the designation often leads to academic scholarships.
