NEW YEAR'S BABY BORN JAN. 3 Charles Cole Memorial Hospital welcomed the first baby of the New Year on January 3. Hunter James Gross was born at 1:51 p.m. and weighed seven pounds, 2.5 ounces. He was 19 inches long. Hunter's parents are Christopher and Jessica Austin Gross of Shinglehouse. He has a sister, Dakota, 11, and a brother, Charlie, 3. Maternal grandparents are Chuck and Lori Austin of Eldred. Paternal grandparents are Jean and the late Herbert Gross of Shinglehouse. Maternal great-grandparents are Alton and Dawn Spencer of Port Allegany and Nancy and the late Leroy Austin of Eldred. Pictured are Chris Gross, Charlie Gross (seated), Jessica Gross, Hunter Gross and Dr. Celso Backes. In back are nurses Sara Keck and Laura Patterson. As the first baby born at Charles Cole in 2009, Hunter and his parents are entitled to a multitude of gifts donated by area merchants.
