Tania L. Harman, an English as a New Language teacher at Warren Primary Center was named 2009 Indiana Teacher of the Year. Tania is the sixth SBCSC teacher to earn this prestigious honor, the most from any school district in Indiana.

Located in north-central Indiana, South Bend Community School Corporation is St. Joseph county's oldest and largest school corporation, and the fourth largest school corporation in Indiana. SBCSC serves traditional K-12 students, special needs students from preschool through age 22, and a large number of adult students. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Applications for the magnet schools for the 2009-10 school year will be accepted from November 1, 2008 through December 15, 2008 (postmarked or online). All applications for the 2009-2010 school year are due by December 15, 2008. Enrollment in a magnet school is available to all children who meet criteria for admission. Enrollment will be controlled on a capacity and racial compliance basis. Students may only apply to one (1) of the magnet schools.

A work session on policy will be held on Monday, December 8th at 5:30 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Board of School Trustees is Monday, December 15th at 5:30 p.m.

School Board meeting agendas and supporting documents are now available to the public via the Internet. Just go to the School Board tab on the left hand column and click "BoardDocs." Click on the plus sign to the left of the meeting you want to view, then click on the plus sign to the left of the heading of the item, and click on the item itself to open it.

Mentoring and Read to a Child

It takes only an hour a week to mentor or read to a child.

Through the program, participating companies or organizations partner with a primary school. Employees then volunteer to either mentor or read to a student.
