Come Back Little Sheba
(Drama)
Nov. 12th - Nov. 23rd When
Lola and Doc Delaney rent a room to Marie, a beautiful and vivacious
18-year-old college student full of youthful sexuality, their home
suddenly is infused with the ghosts of their own failings, both
personal and professional. As the precarious balance of their life
together is upset, their domestic tragedy becomes a gripping drama.
Whether their marriage can survive is revealed as the emotions and
resilient hopes of Lola and Doc come to light. While the play is sometimes referred to as dated and melodramatic, it is nevertheless valued as a prototype for realistic contemporary social theater. When written it was the first play to deal
with addiction. It tells how it affects not only the person who has the
addiction but the people who love and care for them. Shirley
Booth won the Tony and later the Oscar as Best Actress for her
performance of Lola.
