Student Spotlight
Shameka 'Poetry' Thomas, C'2010,
a junior sociology major known by many in the Spelman community for her poetic prowess, is currently studying abroad in South Africa where she was featured on the season finale of the Cape Town televised edition of "Poetry Delight." The National Deans' List scholar will return to the U.S. in the spring to study at the University of California, Berkeley.

'Green Dorm' Opening Excites Community
The ribbon-cutting dedication for The Suites, Spelman's new, state-of-the-art "green" residence hall, will take place on Friday, October 17, at 5 p.m. Members of the Spelman community and special guests will learn about Spelman's sustainable future as they tour the first and only residence hall in the Atlanta University Center to be built with eco-friendly features and architectural attributes.

Marian Wright Edelman Shares Wisdom From New Book
Marian Wright Edelman, C'60, president and founder of the Children's Defense Fund, will deliver inspiring words at the Sisters Chapel Sunday Worship Service on October 12, at 10 a.m. Her book, "The Sea is So Wide and My Boat is So Small: Charting a Course for the Next Generation," will be available following the service.
