SSA Appoints New Soaring Magazine Editor
The association is happy to announce that Chuck Coyne, of San Dimas, California, will become the new editor of SOARING Magazine, beginning with the April, 2008 issue.
With nearly thirty years in the magazine publishing industry, he has worked in editorial departments as well as advertising and marketing positions, after having received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from California State University, Fullerton, in 1976.
He became a pilot in 1986 and added the glider rating in 1988. His publishing experience, combined with the insight available from being a glider pilot, should be valuable combination in his new editorial position.
Call for SSA Director Nominations
This is the official call for nominations for the upcoming election of SSA Directors representing Regions 5, 8 and 12.
Nominations must be postmarked no later than August 1, 2008. Terms for these Directors will be from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2011. SSA members may nominate a member from their Region to serve on the SSA Board. Candidates must be nominated by at least three current SSA members from their region. Nominations must be submitted in writing to the Soaring Society of America, P O Box 2100, Hobbs, NM 88241-2100 or you may fax nominations to 575-392-8154. Nominations must include, in legible form, the name of the nominee and the nominator. After the nomination deadline, nominees will be notified and asked to send a photo and short biography. Each candidate is responsible for supplying the SSA with this information in ready-to-be-printed form no later than August 10. Ballots and accompanying biographical information will be mailed to the voting members of each Region . Balloting will take place with a postmark deadline of September 12, 2008. Ballots will be tabulated and candidates will be notified of the results during the first week of September. Results will be published in the November issue of SOARING Magazine.
