Sports Try a recipe for success Now that Mike Brown has taken the first step and said the defense isn't what it used to be, perhaps the Bears can go about improving what they are instead of trying to be something they are not. Opportunity is before them, but the same speech that was made Monday morning at Halas Hall was echoed in Green Bay and Minnesota.

Rose has no expectations on first 'circus trip' When it comes to the Bulls' so-called ''circus trip,'' Derrick Rose's teammates apparently adhere to the thinking that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. ''If it was good, people would have been telling me,'' Rose said after practice Monday. ''But nobody's been talking, so I don't even want to know.''
Well-guarded win for Dar, Demons The crowd of 3,502 in DePaul's McGrath Arena moaned when sophomore Dar Tucker drove to the basket and opted for an uncontested finger roll with just under four minutes left in the first half Monday night against Albany.

Don't be a turkey Our guide to Thanksgiving Chicago Sun-Times Sure, you can just show up at Mom's and stuff yourself silly. Lifestyles 2 kids struggle with extremely rare cancer Brianna Sharp and Max Lacewell share an unlikely bond. Both kids live in Naperville. They see the same primary care doctor. And now Brianna, a 12-year-old seventh-grader at Gregory Middle School, and Max, a 5-year-old kindergartner at Welch Elementary School, are both immersed in the struggle of their lives. They are fighting the same rare pediatric brain cancer -- diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. Just one in 10 of those afflicted with the brain-stem cancer survives past 18.

Entertainment Two Chicago legends get rousing sendoffs Hedy Weiss: The circle will, indeed, be unbroken. That was the message trumpeted loudly and clearly at two emotion-packed memorials held here Monday. One was for Studs Terkel, the writer, actor, oral historian and maestro of the radio waves who spent most of his 96 years as the man who listened to Chicago. The other paid homage to choreographer Gerald Arpino, co-founder of the Joffrey Ballet, who, in 1995, left a lifetime of memories behind in New York to move his beloved company to the security of a permanent home in this city, and who died last month at the age of 85.

Business Bernanke, Paulson to face grilling on bailout The two top salesmen for a $700 billion financial bailout are in for a grilling by Capitol Hill lawmakers just one week after the administration officially ditched the original strategy behind the rescue. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson are expected to provide greater insights into the shift when they testify Tuesday before the House Financial Services Committee.
