Economic Shock Less in Canada and BC Lower Mainland PDF Print E-mail

“The dramatic economic shock which has shaken the United States and many of the world’s markets has enormous long term implications in that country, and will have a negative impact on trade and commerce with Canada.  However our overall economy will be less affected due to a different and much more regulated financial system,” said Inde Sumal, President of the Surrey Board of Trade (SBOT), responding to the defeat of the American Economic Bail Out package yesterday.

Members of the SBOT Finance & Taxation Team felt that we will certainly feel the impact, but weather the storm.

Surrey Regional Economic Summit – the discussion begins PDF Print E-mail

“It’s an exciting time to be in Surrey, and it’s an exciting time to be part of the Surrey Board of Trade,” – Inde Sumal, President of the Surrey Board of Trade.

Giuliani - Headshot.jpgAt the September 18 Surrey Regional Economic Summit, the Surrey Board of Trade, the City of Surrey, and their partners brought the business community together to talk about the issues and challenges facing Surrey in the 21st century. Keynote speakers included former New York Mayor, Rudi Giuliani, our Premier, Gordon Campbell, and VANOC CEO, John Furlong. Expert panel speakers led discussion on transportation, infrastructure and crime, livable cities, and the economic and commercial future of Surrey.

The issues are complex, so SFU-Surrey, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Vibrant Surrey, and School District 36 provided a variety of white papers as background information for those attending.
