Newest Art Exhibits Will Dazzle!
OBJECTS OF DESIRE: Gems From The
Smithsonian’s Permanent Collection, and RAY BURGGRAF: Orbits and Horizons open
August 30, and will be on display until December 28, 2008.
Visitors will have an opportunity
to see first-hand, both the beautiful appeal of the raw materials as well as
the skillful techniques resulting in finished products, linking the craft with
the gems. Mobell takes ordinary objects and turns them into lavish art
pieces of extraordinary proportions. OBJECTS OF DESIRE: Gems From The
Smithsonian’s Permanent Collection is sponsored by The Gem Collection, and
comes to The Brogan Museum directly from the National Museum of Natural
History’s National Gem Collection.
With jewel-like colors reminiscent
of sweeping vistas of oceanic light or the blaze of sunsets, artist Ray
Burggraf crafts acrylic paintings with seamless precision on sinuously shaped
wood panels for the RAY BURGGRAF: Orbits and Horizons
exhibit. Layers of transitioning color, reminiscent of atmospheric light,
are applied to the wood board paintings that take on a biomorphic shape--nearly
becoming sculptural abstractions of nature’s landscapes.
