The Surgical Technologist is responsible for planning,
implementing and coordination in the care of all
assigned surgical procedures. Co-supervises the activities
of assigned personnel and participates in their learning.
Can function in care of cases of all degrees of difficulty
in all specialties with help. Participates in orientation
of new personnel. Experience in operating room specialties
required; in applicable departments, must possess
skills necessary to treat patients of all ages; must
be able to get along with others in a team situation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Continues to
upgrade knowledge of clinical application and operating
room standards of care to include aseptic technique,
draping, suture, and instrumentation and equipment.
•
Assess data from surgical preference cards for the
needs of the patient(s) and physician(s).
•
Modifies skills in relation to patient and physician
needs. Can scrub on all cases without help or supervision.
Recognizes and reacts to potential and actual emergency
situations.
• Realizes own readiness
for special skills, recognizes areas that need improvement,
and requests opportunity to update clinical knowledge,
skills and ability.
• Accountable for
specialty instruments, i.e. usage, cleaning, upkeep,
sterilization.
• Assists in orientation
of new personnel.
Requirements:
Education: Surgical Technology
diploma or LPN with surgical experience
Experience:
2 years recent Surgical Technologist experience;
progression to this level is not automatic; based
on assessment of knowledge, skills, hospital needs
and objective
