St. Edward Mercy Medical Center is recruiting an Emergency Medicine physician for its busy Emergency Department with an annual volume of over 46,000. The Emergency Department has 31 beds with 57 hours of daily physician coverage, including 12 hours in Minor Medical. St. Edward is a general acute-care 343 bed full-service hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas which serves a population of over 430,000. St. Edward Mercy Medical Center just celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005 and opened its $70 million "Centers of Excellence" in 2002 with facilities for the treatment of heart disease; women and children; and outpatient procedures. They recently opened a new CT suite in the hospital's Centers of Excellence. The proximity of the CT suite to the emergency department allows physicians quick access in critical situations. Mercy Ambulatory Surgery Center received the national Press-Ganey Compass Award for outstanding customer satisfaction. St. Edward is part of the Mercy SafeWatch Electronic ICU Program. Mercy Safewatch provides monitoring of more than 390 ICU beds across the Sisters of Mercy Health System. The Command Center, the largest in the U.S. is based at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Plus in 2010, St. Edward will begin using EPIC software system which will allow access to patient information with the same chart for inpatient and outpatient services. EPIC electronic medical records provide for Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and improves both patient safety and patient outcomes.
