Provides nursing care in accordance with administrative policies, physicians' orders, established standards and nursing principles. Develops and maintains up to date individual resident care plans through interdisciplinary care conferences and care planning. Maintains accurate and complete clinical records on all residents according to established documentation policies and procedures and ensures the confidentiality of these records. Ensures the recording and safe keeping of all drugs including controlled drugs and narcotics. Orders or reorders drugs and maintains an accurate record according to established procedure. Administers medications according to correct procedure and ensures proper documentation is maintained. Ensures orders are correctly processed, recorded and followed through according to established policies. Assists the Director of Care in training, supervising and evaluating departmental nursing personnel. Takes an active leadership role in the department. Assists the Director of Care in activities related to the Infection Control Program. Participates in the multidisciplinary QE/RM responsibilities. Ensures resident satisfaction and continuous quality improvement initiatives are promoted. Is knowledgeable of the Resident Bill of Rights/Governing Principles and endeavors to promote it. Performs on-call responsibilities and other job related duties as required. Specific duties will be listed on job routines. Qualifications: * A Registered Nurse with a current license from the applicable licensing authority. * Demonstrated leadership ability with comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices and techniques as they relate to long term care. Maturity and good physical and mental health, empathy, patience and tact are important qualities to possess. * Seeks out opportunities to maintain competency and continued learning. * Proficiency in a second language is an asset.
