Qualifications
-A Licensed Practical
Nurse possessing a license from the applicable Provincial
authority and a Medication Administration Certificate.
-Experience in a long term care setting. Maturity
and good physical and mental health, empathy, patience
and tact are important qualities to possess.
-Skills and leadership abilities in supervising other
nursing personnel is a must. Must be able to communicate
in English including written documentation.
-Proficiency
in a second language is an asset
Key Responsibilities:
-Assesses the needs of individual residents and organizes
for the provision of resident care under the direction
of the Registered Nurse. Participates in the formulation
of the Resident Care Plan.
-Assists in planning
assignments for self and Health Care Aides/Nurse
Aides, Attendants and delegates accordingly to provide
for effective resident care taking into account the
physical, spiritual, psychosocial and restorative
needs of the resident.
-Supervises the nursing
care given by Health Care Aides/Nurse Aides, Attendants
under his/her direction, in accordance with the Resident
Care Plans.
-Maintains effective communication
and good interpersonal relations with medical and
allied staff, residents, families and other departments.
-Assists with the implementation and enforcement
of all facility and departmental policies including
QE/RM responsibilities.
-Under supervision of
an R.N., maintains the safekeeping of all drugs and
prescribed treatments on the unit. Administers drugs
and treatments according to procedure.
-Supports
and actively participates in unit orientation and
in-service programs. Participation in learning needs
assessment.
-Assists the D.O.C./Registered Nurse
in evaluating the performance of the HCA/NA supervised
by him/her and assists with appropriate documentation.
Keeps the Registered Nurse informed of any staff
members whose performance is less than satisfactory.
-Ensures resident satisfaction and continuous quality
improvement initiatives are promoted.
-Is knowledgeable
of the Resident Bill of Rights/Governing Principles
and endeavors to promote it.
Maintains currency
related to directives/memos/policies within facilities.
-Specific duties will be listed on Job Routines and/or
