DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: • The overall clinical operational responsibility for the clinical functions of the Hospitalist program(s) in the assigned Group to ensure maximum utilization of resources and the efficient delivery of services. Participates in monthly administrative, and quality data analysis and reporting such as: o Group Hospitalist Program Metrics and Analysis o Quality Initiative Strategic Planning o Clinical Protocol Development • Directs and manages clinical projects for Group, such as: • Monitors patient flow through the program(s) to ensure appropriate utilization of clinical resources. • Reviews clinical practice patterns for operational efficiency and standardization. Conducts spot audits to ensure compliance with established clinical practice policies and procedures. • Provides physician and staff training as required for clinical operations issues, including but not limited to quality programming, clinical education, and throughput management • Initiates programs to respond to referring physician and patient satisfaction concerns related to clinical operations. • Identifies opportunities to increase the scope of practice of the Hospitalist programs. • Interacts at least quarterly with each Hospitalist Program Medical Director and facility administrators to ensure their program clinical operations needs are met and: • Resolves any medical/administrative problems. • Reviews monthly quality/clinical operating reports • Keeps lines of communication open between program staff and administration. • Insures high employee morale and a professional, effective, and efficient working atmosphere. • Participates in annual budgeting process for Group when requested by:< • Analyzing and forecasting the impact of increasing or decreasing current level of clinical services provided by the program • Recommends corrective action as required. • Develops and recommends new patient care services for implementation. • Analyzes hospital systems issues related to the Hospitalist program and provides clinical operations plans for improvement. • Facilitates development of a quality program in conjunction with JCAHO and other standards, to include facilitation of quarterly quality reviews and providing for problem resolutions. • Promotes the development of hospital medicine as a team-oriented process, which incorporates the standards of daily multidisciplinary collaborative rounds and physician-to-physician hand-offs. • Participates in the development and implementation of practice standards and clinical guidelines as needed; ensures that protocols, algorithms, and order sets are evidence-based. • Audits and evaluates compliance with clinical guidelines. • Applies the standards of Professional Nursing, including but not limited to implementation of the nursing process and integration of professional nursing practice, into clinical operation design as appropriate for hospital medicine. • Serves as a clinical operations resource for all hospital-based provider programs within Group. • Participates in Hospitalist program assessments and annual evaluations when requested. • Participates in administrative Clinical Operations meetings at least quarterly. • Program and adhere to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement". • Evaluates each Clinical Operations Division Director's performance and provides appropriate guidance and feedback. • Counsels, disciplines and/or recommends termination of employees as required. • Recommends and approves professional development for staff. • Maintains professional nursing license and continues to obtain advanced nursing knowledge related to hospital medicine, quality, and acute care clinical operations. • Develops and oversees implementation and administration of internal program policies and procedures in conjunction with Physician Services standard policies and procedures. Interprets applicable laws, rules and regulations and ensures the program is in compliance with them. • Develops and maintains effective communications between all levels of personnel. • Ensures compliance with and knowledge of the company's Code of Conduct by all subordinates to ensure an ethical work environment KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - This position requires the following minimum requirements: • Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, systems and objectives. • Knowledge of health care administration systems. • Knowledge of hospital medicine program design and implementation. • Knowledge of multidisciplinary team development. • Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements related to clinical practice. • Ability to use various computer systems and applications. • Ability to plan, organize and supervise. • Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment and problem-solving techniques in the decision-making process. • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients and the public. • Ability to communicate clearly. EDUCATION - A Bachelors degree in Nursing is required, Master's Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
