POSITION REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Maintains established department policies and procedures. 2. Accurately performs all tests, including appropriate rechecks. 3. Assures that good safety practices are utilized for the protection of patients, staff and self. 4. Utilizes universal precautions and other infection control practices as appropriate. 5. Displays competency operating equipment. Reports problems to Lead Tech or Supervisor in a timely manner. 6. Displays competency trouble-shooting equipment. Reports problems to Lead Tech or Supervisor in a timely manner. 7. Displays competency performing all maintenance on equipment. Reports problems to Lead Tech or Supervisor in a timely manner. 8. Makes all necessary calls according to policy and documents calls in the computer. 9. Runs and documents all quality control tests appropriately. Test results not verified without proper QC. 10. Performs calibrations and parallel testing as necessary in departments accurately and documents appropriately. 11. Performs proficiency testing in each area promptly and accurately with appropriate forms completed. 12. Maintains proficiency in at least three of five departments (departments are: Hematology - including Coag, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Microbiology - including Serology, and Urinalysis). 13. Treats all patients, family, physicians, and staff with dignity and respect. Complaints/concerns are minimal. 14. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work and assures that areas are stocked with the necessary supplies and accessories. 15. Monitors supplies and notifies Lead Tech/Supervisor of low inventory and assures supplies are stored correctly. 16. Provides technical support to assist with outpatient issues. 17. Answers phone promptly using proper phone etiquette. 18. Assures all faxed results are completed. 19. Never abuses absences. 20. Never abuses tardiness. 21. Provides proper notification and advance notice for absences and tardies. 22. When requested, is willing to adjust personal schedule. 23. Maintains individual productivity to complete assigned work during the shift. 24. Participates in quality assurance program. 25. Assists in identifying areas to monitor for possible improvement. 26. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Attends a minimum of 10 hours per year. 27. Responsible for throughput of patient testing minimizing turn-around time. 28. Acts as an educational resource and is available for consultation to Phlebotomy, Physicians, Nursing, and Ancillary and Administrative staff. 29. Establishes and maintains communication within the department and with other hospital departments. 30. Performs competency assessments promptly as assigned. 31. Attends meetings as required. 32. Performs other duties as assigned or requested. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS 1. Associates Degree in Medical Technology or related field 2. Laboratory Information System experience preferred LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION 1. MT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred upon hire, required within 9 months of hire Please reply online.
