The Senior Grant & Contract Officer (SGCO) in Sponsored Research Funds & Administration, as a professional representative of CSHS, is responsible for accurate and comprehensive pre- and post-award administration of research awards and clinical trials generated by assigned departments(s). Major responsibilities include assisting Principal Investigators (PI's) and staff in preparation, submission, and management of research projects. Also interpretation of funding agency regulation and procedure to ensure that PI's under their responsibility are given timely notice of requirements. Professional abilities are utilized in budget, contract, and agreement development and negotiation to staff on policy as they apply to research administration. Conduct in-service training seminars for PI's and Staff. Serves as an information source for the departments and research community. Must be able to manage an unpredictable and voluminous workload while providing quality service and meet deadlines through organization, interpersonal skills, and by accurate prioritization of activities. Five years of working knowledge in the independent administration or research grants and contracts in a central administration office or the equivalent. Must have an informed working knowledge of the policies and procedures of granting agencies as well as the institutional purchasing, personnel and accounting systems. This position requires the analytical abilities to identify and review problem situations, make independent decisions and/or recommend solutions. Must be able to communicate to individuals at varies levels effectively verbally and in writing.
