Description: Seeking a Deputy Director for the General Infectious Disease (GID) working group within the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Program (IDCRP).
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc is seeking a Deputy Director for the General Infectious Disease (GID) working group within the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Program (IDCRP), and a faculty member in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics (PMB), Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS).

The incumbent conducts clinical research, provides coordination and support for GID protocols, provides support to the IDCRP Associate Director for Clinical Research-General Infectious Diseases, teaches and directs graduate level courses in clinical research, and instructs medical students, residents, and fellows. The incumbent is supervised by the IDCRP Associate Director for Clinical Research-General Infectious Diseases. Collaborates with DoD investigators on the design, conduct, and analysis of observational and interventional clinical studies related to research areas within the GID working group including multi-drug resistant infections, trauma-related infections, clinical vaccine development, and travel medicine-related infections.

Provides technical and administrative support for the development of new clinical research protocols for funding by the IDCRP. Critically reviews research concepts and protocols submitted to the IDCRP General ID Working Group. Designs, directs and teaches graduate level course in clinical research. Instructs medical students in clinical research concepts. Mentors medical students, residents, and fellows in clinical research. Maintains detailed knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories related to epidemiology and clinical research design, conduct, and analysis with particular emphasis on infectious diseases. Trains and supervises technical and scientific staff. Makes major contributions to scientific literature and conferences. Generally supports the IDCRP, as requested. Completes other projects as needed.

Work Environment: Office and hospital environment; may require working evenings and weekends; some travel is required to other facilities within the U.S. and/or foreign locations for project coordination, research and/or scientific conferences (both national and international); may involve exposure to human tissues or body fluids.

Must have knowledge of applicable highly complex clinical research scientific procedures and techniques; excellent communication skills; ability to work independently and supervise others.
Minimum Education/Training: MPH, doctoral degree (MD or PhD). Minimum Experience: 3 to 5 years of clinical research experience. Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: Medical License
