Accountable to the Nurse Manager for providing skilled nursing care to the acutely ill medical patients, including telemetry & monitored intermediate care, and post-surgical patients, in accordance with the standards and policies of the Nursing Program AVDHA, Soldiers Memorial Hospital and the nursing profession. Travel to other sites within the district may be required. Position to commence as soon as a suitable candidate is found. Salary and Benefits as per current N.S.N.U Collective Agreement. The successful candidate will join a diverse and progressive team of nurses, physicians and other allied professionals providing quality healthcare in Annapolis Valley Health. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: • Registered in the Province of Nova Scotia; • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support; • Recent and relevant experience in caring for the acutely ill medical and surgical patient in a comparable acute care setting. • Physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position and available to work all shifts. • Exemplary work history as demonstrated in current and past employment. • Demonstrated good attendance in current and past employment. • Demonstrated commitment to the pursuit of continuing education related to care of the cardiac patient & acutely ill medical patient. PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH: • Recent experience in the care and management of patients with acute coronary syndromes including: -Telemetry and cardiac monitoring -12-lead ECG and basic rhythm interpretation -Current pharmacology related to management of infarcts, heart failure, and coronary syndromes. • Current Code management or ACLS. Skills: • Good nursing assessment skills, and ability to work as an effective team member; • Ability to relate and interact effectively with patients, families, staff and others; • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally; • Ability to use critical thinking skills; • Ability to plan, organize, supervise and prioritize client care effectively under varied circumstances; • Ability to demonstrate initiative, good judgment and tact; • Ability to respect confidences of personnel and patient information; • Demonstrated ability in self-evaluation and self-motivation.
