These positions are located in the School
Health Services Program and are under the direct supervision
of the SHS Director or designee.
As directed and supervised performs a variety of student health care activities including administering and delivering health services to students and creating a climate of health and well being; in accordance with established department policies, standards, procedures and compliance with local, Tribal, state and federal regulations and guidelines MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Graduation of an approved and accredited program leading to a certificate as a Medical Assistant with 1 year previous patient care experience preferred 2. Current CPR and BLS certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire 3. Ability to read, write, speak, hear and understand English with arithmetic skills typically acquired through completion of a course of study leading to a high school diploma or equivalent 4. Ability to work harmoniously with children and adults 5. Knowledge of and adheres to all policies, regulations and rules ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Establishes a school health record for each student and maintains the records, emergency cards and files 2. Treats students illnesses and injuries according to guidelines of treatment, maintains confidentiality, documents, and notifies parents, guardians, and/or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers 3. Inventories and maintains office supplies, first aid supplies, and over the counter medications 4. Secures and locks prescription medication in cabinets 5. Compiles information and prepares monthly health services reports for immunizations, hearing, and vision for state reports 6. Periodically reviews all student records for any health needs 7. Prepares and sends referrals at RN's direction and follow-up on referrals as directed 8. Records and updates individual student records on screenings, immunizations and all other necessary information 9. Administers and documents daily prescription and over-the-counter medications to students in accordance with school board policy under the supervision of the school administrator and RN's direction via standing orders from the provider 10. Insure parental consents are completed on each student before delivering any services to student, with the exception of an emergency 11. Insure parental and provider consents are provided for all prescription medications. 12. Insure parental consent received on all over the counter medications before administering 13. Maintains daily log of all students seen in the health office 14. Supervises enrollment of students with regard to proper immunization history 15. Administers first aid as needed 16. Acts as a liaison between teachers, parents, students and administrators 17. Notifies principal and RN in any and all emergencies 18. Notifies RN if child is in need of health assessment 19. Notifies RN of any infectious or contagious diseases that might require exclusion of the student from school 20. Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor 21.
