Job Details: Optometry Director - Optometry

 
Description: Plans, assesses, directs, develops, implements and evaluates both clinical and administrative functions and operations of the Optometry Clinic.
Plans, assesses, directs, develops, implements and evaluates both clinical and administrative functions and operations of the Optometry Clinic to ensure delivery of effective and appropriate quality patient care consistent with established regulatory, licensing and practice standards and requirements and which supports/furthers the mission, goals and objectives of the hospital.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduation from an accredited program of study leading to an OD degree

2. Current, unrestricted and valid State of Arizona license to practice Optometry from the Arizona State Board of Optometry; completion of 1 year optometric residency program

3. At least 6 years clinical experience which includes 2 years in a leadership/management role

4. Current basic CPR designation or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. As Medical Director, provides clinical leadership and consultation for other involved professionals on diverse treatment issues

2. Plans, assigns, evaluates and directs clinical and administrative activities of clinic to ensure compliance with established service and quality standards, state, federal and licensing regulations and requirements

3. Directs, plans and implements programs designed to integrate with and support mission, vision, goals and objectives of the hospital

4. Develops clinical and financial outcome measures, related tracking and monitoring systems and a mechanism to integrate efforts into the organization-wide Quality Management program

5. Actively participates in development, review and evaluation of program related policies and procedures, program planning and integration of hospital goals and objectives

6. Serves as primary liaison with medical staff and other health care providers to facilitate coordination of treatment

7. Conducts comprehensive evaluations, overall findings and diagnosis of patients through use of history and other appropriate tests

8. Prescribes and monitors medications; recommends appropriate clinical interventions including laser treatment on site

9. Administers, develops and reviews optometry residency and intern programs including, but not limited to: provides lectures, evaluates and review resident performance, and maintains accreditation with the Council of Optometric Education

10. Reviews medical histories and records treatments in medical charts to ensure proper and timely documentation

11. Works collaboratively with other medical and specialty areas to discuss and obtain consultative services for cases requiring multi-disciplinary approach
12. Administers tribal eyeglass programs by contracting laboratory services, frame manufacturer services and maintaining financial records of program
13. Serves as a resource to the patient and/or family regarding available community and state resources, programs and services to provide for health needs of patients
14. Provides clinical coverage for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients served to ensure provision of a comprehensive continuum of care
15. Identifies opportunities to develop, facilitate and incorporate process improvement initiatives
16. Develops and supervises staff through provision of timely feedback and use of appropriate Human Resource policies and procedures
17. Facilitates professional growth of staff through use of a variety of continuing education programs, conferences and other means

18. Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings and workshop participation

19. Actively participates as a member of the Medical Staff; serves on committees as appropriate

20. Provides clinical leadership and consultation for other professionals by providing expertise in various therapeutic interventions

21. Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives

22. Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
