Medical Microbiologist
BC Children's Hospital & BC Women's Hospital and Health Centre

PHSA Laboratories is recruiting a Full Time Medical Microbiologist whose focus will be shared between providing clinical service within Children's & Women's Health Centre and Infection Control services for acute care sites within PHSA (Children's and Women's Health Centre, BC Cancer Agency, Riverview Hospital). You will work collaboratively with medical, scientific and technical staff to provide clinical medical microbiology for C&W and infection control service for all PHSA's affiliated Agencies. Some travel may be required to the various BC Cancer Agency Centres across British Columbia. This role will see you assume responsibility for interpretation, reporting and consultation with clinicians and participation in the on-call roster. Although the focus of this position is clinical service and infection control, you will have the chance to gain experience in issues uniquely related to maternal/fetal infections and pediatric infections. There will be opportunity to participate in ongoing research and to gain experience in molecular diagnostic techniques pertinent to acute care medical microbiology or infection control.

As well as being eligible for licensure in British Columbia, you are certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Medical Microbiology, or hold an equivalent certification. Expertise in pediatrics and/or pediatric medical microbiology and infection control would be highly beneficial. You will be appointed to the appropriate faculty rank with the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia. Academic initiatives have been carefully integrated with clinical services to maximize patient care and to enhance teaching and research endeavors in a collaborative manner. UBC and its affiliates hire on the basis of merit and are committed to employment equity. We encourage all qualified persons to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
