The goal of the NICU is to excel in providing quality health care to neonates towards meeting their physiological, psychological and spiritual needs. Our NICU is a 20 bed Level IIEQ facility, certified by the Arizona Perinatal Regional System. Care is provided to all newborns that are born here. Ages range from birth to 28 days of age or until discharge. The NICU staff is comprised of qualified Neonatologists, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, NICU LPNs, Business Associates, a NICU Support Specialist, and a Developmental Care Coordinator who collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including Respiratory, Care Coordination, Spiritual Care, Family Support Services, Pharmacy, Children's Health Services, Rehabilitation Services, Cardiology, Laboratory, Radiology, and other units within Women and Children Services. Unit direction is provided by the NICU Director, who is a Master's prepared Registered Nurse licensed in the state of Arizona. Job Description: Performs assessments focusing on the physical and psychosocial, spiritual and cultural health status of the patient in an ongoing, timely, and systematic manner as evidenced by documentation. Participates in formulating an outcome-based plan of care which is prioritized and can be based on nursing. Directs other health team members, including Business Associates, Clinical Associates, and Team Associates, in the provision of patient care, team activities, and plans of care. Implements care in a knowledgeable and skillful manner, as evidenced by team feedback and documentation, and patient feedback. Evaluates effectiveness of care given by self and other health team members, in progressing patient toward outcomes. Utilizes the nursing process to compare patient response with observable outcomes which are specified in the plan of care as evidenced by documentation Identifies initial and ongoing patient/family/significant other's education needs as an integral part of care and implements appropriate measures to meet these as evidenced by documentation. Initiates discharge planning based upon admission assessment, makes appropriate referrals and monitors patient/family/significant other's progress and readiness for discharge, collaborating with health team members, as appropriate. Documentation is performed as required. Performing concise, accurate and legible documentation according to standards designated for pertinent circumstances as evidenced by audit.
