We are currently inviting resumes for: Full-time & Part-time Mental Health Nurses for our New Emergency Mental Health Services While being employed by Homewood Health Centre, these R.N. positions will be physically located in Emergency Mental Health Services, in the Emergency Department of Guelph General Hospital. The R.N. in this clinical area provides assessment and care to patients in an Emergency Department environment. Patients are those who present in the Emergency Department in a mental health crisis/emergency. The nursing role is challenged to provide care based on a crisis model of care with a bio-psychosocial approach in a safe environment. The excellent nursing skills required are: the ability to manage crisis and emergency situations with independence of action, quick decision-making, excellent organizational skills, and personal stress management. The nurse will rely on a superior knowledge base in the realms of psychiatry, substance abuse, psychopharmacology, children¡¦s mental health issues, aggressive behaviour management and application of the Mental Health Act. This is an ONA position and is governed by the Collective Agreement between ONA and Homewood Health Centre. Qualifications: - Current Certificate of Competence, Ontario - BScN and CPMHN(C) preferred - Proven excellence in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and organizational skills - Working knowledge of community mental health resources - Proven ability and skill in working independently and as a part of an innovative interdisciplinary team - Current certification in CPR/Basic rescuer required - Ability to prioritize and function effectively in a demanding and challenging environment - Highly skilled in assessment and prevention of suicide, and management of aggressive behavior through nonviolent crisis intervention techniques - Current knowledge and experience related to emergency mental health and crisis intervention along with working knowledge of the Mental Health Act - Proven ability to assume leadership - Demonstrated commitment to Homewood and Guelph General Hospital Core Competencies & Values as listed below - Commitment to working within both Homewood and Guelph General Hospital Health & Safety Standards Guelph General Hospital - Values Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork Homewood Health Centre - Core Competencies Excellence in Practice, Teamwork, Resource Management, Communication, Relationship Building, Continuous Improvement Human Resources Department Homewood Health Centre 150 Delhi Street Guelph, Ontario N1E 6K9 Website: http://www.homewood.org E-mail: hrhome@homewood.org Fax: (519) 767-3531 Only those eligible for interviews will be contacted.
