Position Summary Purpose: To demonstrate theoretical and clinical expertise in the physical, psychosocial, developmental, and educational aspects of nursing care for specified pediatric patient populations and their families as outlined in the unit profiles. The CNS works interdependently with and independently of the multidisciplinary team. Scope of practice will include practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher, administrator, and change agent. The CNS is dedicated to promoting optimal patient/family care with the ultimate goal of enhanced patient/family outcomes. Knowledge and Skills: Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is clinical expertise and experience in the clinical area of practice. Also required is the ability to operate all types of equipment and perform special procedures in the assigned nursing area; be flexible to meet the needs of the personnel and unit on a 24 hour basis; demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills, and basic computer skills. Formal Education, License and Experience: The formal education normally associated with completely satisfactory performance in this job is a Master's Degree in nursing. Five years of experience in pediatric/neonatal nursing. A current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas and certification as a Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Texas.
