is seeking two experienced generalist Clinical Counsellors
for the communities of Watson Lake and Haines Junction
in the Yukon.
These are full time positions with a starting salary range of $60,001-$64,292 for a Masters level Counsellor plus Yukon Bonus of $2855 and northern living allowance. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package, clinical supervision and professional development. Clinical Supervision is provided by a full time Supervisor located in the Whitehorse office. Relocation subsidy up to $8,000 is available. The Watson Lake position is an ongoing permanent position. The Haines Junction position is a two year contract position to cover a planned leave of absence. The Counsellors must be personally and professionally robust and prepared to deal with communities in crisis with trans-generational complex trauma issues. Watson Lake is Canada's "Gateway to the Yukon." The community of approximately 1000 people is nestled in the southeast corner of the Yukon along the historic Alaska Highway. Pristine lakes, boreal forests and wild rivers surround the community. Watson Lake is a vibrant and active community that offers many recreational activities including hiking, fishing, camping, hunting and downhill/cross-country skiing to name a few. The community has recently built a new Recreation Complex complete with squash courts, weight room, bowling alley, and curling rink and hockey arena. There are also opportunities to learn and take part in traditional First Nation culture. Haines Junction is a small village on the edge of a vast and spectacular wilderness landscape. The town has a population of 800 people and is often referred to as the "Yukon's Best Kept Secret". Haines Junction lies within the traditional homeland of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, Southern Tutchone people who have lived in the area for thousands of years. Set against the spectacular backdrop of Canada's highest mountains, Haines Junction is located at the junction of the Alaska Highway and the Haines Highway, 158 kilometres west of Whitehorse. Haines Junction is best known as the access point to Kluane National Park and Reserve, a dramatically beautiful wilderness park, famous for its glaciers, mountains, and wildlife. The Haines Junction Counsellor will cover a 2 year leave of absence and will work out of the office in Haines Junction. The Haines Junction Counsellor will travel up the North Highway to provide itinerant counselling in the isolated communities of Beaver Creek, Destruction Bay and Burwash Landing. The successful candidate will possess: • 3-5 years experience working with individuals, couples and families • MSW, minimum or equivalent degree from a recognized university, with strong clinical emphasis, with at least 3-5 years supervised experience. (Those candidates with a combination of training and experience will be given consideration.) • Cultural sensitivity and experience working with First Nations clients and/or Northern communities. • Current membership in a recognized professional association. • Knowledge of counselling interventions and treatment models including a systems perspective and experience in assessments, individual counselling, couple, children, youth, family counselling and group work. • Excellent interpersonal, and team work skills. • Experience with critical incident stress management, mental health issues and complex trauma responses. • strong team skills for working with interdisciplinary teams of social workers, teachers, counsellors, nurses, police and other community professionals • Demonstrated ability to work in small community and effectively manage boundary issues. • A valid drivers license, reliable vehicle and insurance.
