BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women's health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women's is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,500 births in 2005/6, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system. As an academic health centre BCW's mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and the education and professional development of health care professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve. Site Head, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology BC Women's Hospital - Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada This is a high profile role for an accomplished physician to lead the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at BCW in its clinical, academic and administrative missions. Reporting directly to the UBC Department Head and VP of Medical Services & Quality Promotion and Women's and Family Health Program, your mandate encompasses all departmental activities at the BCW site including patient care, quality assurance and improvement, safety, credentialing, faculty performance review, education and research. You will also promote and lead the Department in the attainment of the goals and objectives of the University Department and Health Centre, and liaise with internal and external clinicians, health care providers, and academic institutions to achieve sound outcomes at the local, regional, provincial and national level across the whole mandate of the Department and BC Women's Health Centre. Clinically credible and active in a recognized field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, you will focus on academic clinical activity and administration at a ratio of 50/50. This appointment is for a term of 5 years initially with eligibility for reappointment to a second consecutive term following a performance review. You must bring a senior level of clinical and academic experience and training relevant to the role along with eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia as well as cross-appointment to the faculty of the University of BC.
