POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for increasing visibility of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center to the EMS agencies that serve our community as measured by EMS satisfaction and increased volume. Assist the EMS Director as well as the Physician Advisor in developing and evolving an EMS program at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Responsible for quality assessment of patient care to include assisting with design and development of QA/PI indicators, active participation in outcome review, and initial screening for EMS run review issues. EMS Coordinator will work with the Physician Advisor to ensure compliance with state and national guidelines. Provides ongoing statistical reports and assists with developing specialized reports as required or assigned. Participates in EMS research as appropriate. Serves as a liaison between EMS and related departments. Responsible for developing a method to measure EMS satisfaction. Will represent Fort Walton Beach Medical Center in all areas of EMS within the local communities as well as regional and National Emergency Medical Service Systems. Will guide and implement procedures related to Disaster preparedness and recovery. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by director. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Must have effective verbal communication skills in order to interact in a clear, concise manner with EMS, staff, physicians, and administration. 2. Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care. Must be organized and able to teach adult learners. 3. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered. 4. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues. 5. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm. 6. Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements. 7. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety. EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: Associate Degree required, Bachelors Degree preferred LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current and Active Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic, BLS Health Care Provider, ACLS Health Care Provider, PALS Healthcare Provider required. Instructor Certification Requirements preferred: AHA BLS instructor, AHA AED instructor, AHA ACLS instructor and AHA PALS instructor. Instructor/Coordinator certification must be obtained within one year of employment. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED: Must have three years recent (within past year) pre-hospital ALS patient care. Experience in supervision of staff required. Experience in supervision of staff, EMS education program development and experience in Quality Improvement desired. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and character. Computer skills to include data entry, reporting and word processing. Typing skills sufficient to complete the job in a timely manner. Must be skilled in time management in order to coordinate and prioritize multiple task. Must have current knowledge of EMT-B, EMT-I, and EMT-P scope of practice. Knowledge and experience with EMS protocols is preferred.
