MENTAL HEALTH UNIT SUPERVISOR. $6,387 to $7,075/Month. One full time vacancy in the Division of Community Mental Health Services, Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), 250 Bon Air Road, Greenbrae. Three evening shifts working 3:30 p.m. to 12 midnight and two day shifts working 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, crisis intervention, and leadership skills. THE POSITION: This position is responsible for the supervision of the Division of Community Mental Health Services' Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES). The incumbent selects, supervises and evaluates the PES staff. The incumbent is also responsible coordinating unit and shift activities and administrative functions, as well as providing some crisis assessment and intervention services to PES clients. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, crisis intervention, and leadership skills. DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to: • Oversees one or more specific mental health programs in the delivery of services to treat or maintain adults with serious mental illnesses. • Plans, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of staff and interns assigned to one or more specific programs; assists in selection, training and evaluation of staff and interns. • Meets with individual staff on a regular basis to review assignments, progress, case records and problem areas; makes recommendations regarding methods of treatment and meeting client needs. • Coordinates provision of services with other program elements, related community mental health service agencies and private care providers and treatment facilities. • Participates in developing procedure manuals and instructional material and assists in developing program goals; assists senior management in evaluating program needs and developing an effective program. • Provides consultation services to the community and related agencies; meets with community organizations, private individuals, agency administrators and professional staff to gain cooperation in achieving program goals and serves as liaison to community, county and/or state organizations. • Practices and administrative procedures of unit and shift coordination, including admissions criteria and procedures. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Either a Master's of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited college OR a Master's degree from an accredited school in psychiatric nursing, psychology counseling, social work or a closely related field OR a doctorate in psychology. In addition to the education and licensure requirements (see below), applicants must have two years of clinical mental health experience providing services in an acute psychiatric inpatient unit or psychiatric emergency services setting to mental health clients AND one year of experience in providing clinical supervision in a mental health setting. Graduate level course work in clinical supervision may be substituted for the clinical supervisory experience on a month-for-month basis. LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Registered Nurse (RN), or Clinical Psychologist OR completion of three years of graduate education in clinical psychology including completion of the doctoral qualifying (comprehensive) examinations and completion of a university approved internship in clinical psychology that would be equal to two full-time academic quarters (900 hours). The internship must be in addition to practicum work associated with specific academic courses or dissertation research.
