A vacancy exists at the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) for a Clinical Services Director (CSD) for the Inpatient Psychiatry Services. The incumbent directly supervises all clinical nursing staff and activities for 37 beds of Inpatient Psychiatry, 29 beds of Inpatient ADTP. The position requires a professional registered nurse who will provide 24-hour management, supervision and leadership, and support evidence-based nursing practice for staff in the above areas. The CSD will function collaboratively with the medical staff, department/program leaders, community organizations and nursing staff in a variety of departments/programs. The incumbent is expected to actively support development and implementation of VHA, VISN 22, VASDHS and Nursing/PCS policies and programs. The incumbent will be the inpatient nursing representative on the Psychiatry Executive Leadership Team and will be responsible for assuring that nursing and other patient care issues are appropriately addressed. The position reports administratively to the Director, Inpatient/Extended Care Services. The CSD, Inpatient Psychiatry supports and leads staff in accomplishing the following: 1) provides a safe & therapeutic environment for patients, staff and others; 2) assures that care and/or services provided are appropriate to the age, gender, cultural and learning needs of the patient; 3) applies infection control measures appropriately in delivering care; 4) identifies & analyzes systems problems which effect/impede patient care and initiate their solution; 5) coordinates care by collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired patient outcomes; 6) adheres to ethical principles and nursing standards in delivering care; 7) assures that performance & professional standards are monitored & met in compliance with various regulatory & accrediting agencies; 8) manages multiple resources to meet patient care needs & assure quality care; 9) uses effective communication skills with others to achieve desired patient outcomes & program goals; and 10) demonstrates mandatory, clinical and managerial competencies of the position. The CSD also serves as mentor/role model for staff and students as they pursue leadership development and clinical expertise. THIS IS AN OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT. BSN and Masters degree in Nursing (or a related field) and 2-3 years of applicable nursing experience is required. Evidence of progressive management and clinical experience, advanced interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to lead with interdisciplinary teams required. Must meet regulatory qualification standards as identified in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Appendix G. 1. Citizen of the United States. 2. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. 3. Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in any State, territory or commonwealth of the U.S. 4.
