Job Details: Remote Site Paramedic

 
Title: Paramedic
Location: Remote, Alaska
Description: Remote Site Paramedic wanted for six month project. Rotation work schedule, Three weeks on/ Three weeks off. Working 12hr Days.
Nationally Registered Paramedic in a remote independent duty station setting, that is able to work a three week on three week off work schedule. While on shift, working 12 hours days with call. This position may be stationed on an oil exploration/ drilling vessel. Must be comfortable to fly in helicopters. Sight Specific Training Provided.

CORE Roles & Responsibilities

Client role
Emergency preparedness
• Provide 24 hour emergency medical assistance and consultation
• Manage multiple acute and trauma events including stabilization on site for up to 24 hours in collaboration with local medical provider or topside medical support
• Manage the first aid team and their co-ordination
• Input into decisions on medical evacuations
• Participate in emergency response exercises and major incident plans with emergency response/HSSE team at least quarterly
• Retain a copy of chemical risk assessments/MSDSs for first aid response to possible exposure incidents

Administration
• Comply with written procedures, standing orders, patient group directions etc.
• Maintain in date stock of medical consumables in compliance with legal and professional standards relating to storage, dispensing, administration and disposal of CD, POM, OTC medications
• Ensure correct maintenance of medical equipment and check function regularly
• Maintain the clinic/hospital and triage area
• Put a clinical waste management process in place according to professional and legal standards
• Reporting
• Provide management and Beacon Health with sufficient information on sickness absence and trends
• Assist in the reporting and investigation of occupational illness and injury as outlined in the Beacon recording system including health surveillance results of concern

Communication
• Maintain good working relationships with local managers, the HSSE team, local medical service providers, topside medical support (if applicable), health manager and Beacon Health staff
• Be an active member of the paramedic network and attend meetings and training sessions (mandatory)

Professional development
• Maintain a professional profile
• Keep up to date with industry and legislative competency standards
• Complete and pass ACLS and ATLS (or equivalent) training and examination annually

Training
• Provide training and health promotion as appropriate and within own competencies (such as safe manual handling techniques, computer use, food handling, general hygiene, remote area survival, first aid) together with the local medical provider
• Input into health training and awareness of safety representatives and all personnel

Ability
• Registered or licensed by the local health authority
• Registered nursing/paramedic/medic/medical qualification in home country
• ATLS and ACLS or equivalent training and certification
• Experience of working as a paramedic in remote areas in the gas and oil industry for at least 2 years OR in an emergency setting for at least 3 years
• Basic knowledge of occupational health, industrial hygiene and health surveillance would be an advantage.

• Support and fully integrate with HSSE teams locally
• Report day to day to local HSSE/Project/Operations/Installation manager and functionally to the health manager
• Collect data and communicate with E&P health team including monthly and annual report
• Input into health planning
• Monitor the work environment and health management system
• Monitor food quality and food handling practices
• Monitor potable water quality
• Monitor hygiene of accommodation and welfare facilities
• Develop the role and perform such other duties as necessary to contribute to efficient functioning, maintenance and further development of the service

The role holder is required to set and deliver high standards of Health and Safety for themselves and other people who may be affected by their work, and also to comply with any business policy or standard relating to health and safety.

Travel to work site from Anchorage provided. Once on site, all meals, transportation, communication, lodging provided.
