Description: Position: Health IT Program Coordinator
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
Classification: Professional, full-time employment

Working in a team environment, the HIT Coordinator will be an energetic and experienced self-starter. This person will understand how information systems operate and how they apply the health of individuals, families and communities. The position will provide oversight for HIT programs and online applications at Genetic Alliance. S/he will work closely with the Webmaster and the Genetics Resources Specialist. This person will focus on a series of programs designed to increase the visibility of genetics and advocacy, establish strong networks, and advance important campaigns through our electronic channels. These include: Disease InfoSearch, Resource Repository, WikiAdvocacy, WikiGenetics.

Specific tasks related to these projects include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Strategic planning around IT and how it can be integrated to improve the health of individuals, as well as increase collaboration within the genetics community.
• Representing the organization at HIT related meetings
• Ability to analyze and write about the Health IT landscape, especially in regards to electronic medical records (EMR) and personal health records (PHR)
• Increase consumer involvement in EMR/PHR development and formation of related public policy
• Maintaining and expanding usage of online resources and tools
• Managing Genetic Alliance HIT tools and integrating with those of the greater community

To be successful, the HIT Program Coordinator will understand how individual projects further the greater Genetic Alliance mission. S/he will quickly grasp objectives of ongoing projects and work to maximize productivity of program staff. The ideal candidate will be familiar with technology, but will be looking to expand upon the programmatic applications of their knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS - HIT Program Coordinator

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required. More than 3 years relevant work experience preferred. Experience managing online tool applications and cross data standards preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
- Thrives in a fast-paced and stimulating environment
- Familiarity with health or healthcare information systems
- Superior organization and time management skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately to a range of audiences, both verbally and in writing
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred:
- Experience coordinating meetings, teleconferences, and electronic forums
- Familiarity with non-profit and mission oriented organizations
